This image was based on the 1851 survey map of the city of San Francisco. Since then all the wetlands and tidal estuaries of Mission Bay have disappeared. The water still flows, however it is deep under our feet in concrete boxes, tubes, and sewer infrastructure.
Paper for this piece consists almost entirely of various brown paper shopping bags. There is one tiny red road from a recent street map of San Francisco.
